Thompson Forum To Explore Creative Solutions To Global Challenges

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Thompson Forum on World Issues is kicking off its 34th season in September with a talk by New York Times best-selling author Candice Millard, the Lincoln Journal Star reports.

Millard's most recent book, River of the Gods: Genius, Courage, and Betrayal in the Search for the Source of the Nile, tells the story of English explorers Richard Burton and John Hanning Speke, who set out to find the source of the Nile.

The book also profiles Sidi Bombay, the formerly enslaved local guide who played a pivotal role in the expedition.

Millard will speak at 7:30pm on Sept. 28.

Other speakers in the 2022-23 season include Dr.

Ali S. Khan, dean and tenured professor of epidemiology in the University of Nebraska Medical Center's College of Public Health, and Tyler Riewer, creative director at charity: water, a nonprofit organization that uses data and storytelling to connect donors to their impact and dream up new ways to think about sustainability in the water sector.

Tickets are free and open to the public.
